The Promontory Wind
by Michael Baker
whooo hoo!
Free Spirit Man, it's hard to love ya
Why you treat me so unkind I do not know
Far across the sea, we were joined you and me
Now I look here at the sea
and the Promontory Wind
Oh I must get a boat built for that sea
whoo!
Out on the sea!
Free Spirit Man, it's hard to move ya
Why you feel you wait in line I do not know
Far across the sea, we were joined you and me
Now I look here at the sea
and the Promontory Wind
Oh, I must get a boat built for that sea
whoo!
Out on the sea!
Out in the day
when the buildings fell away
oh, we knew we could see
see it when it came -
A perfect glowing light
ferried down between the leaves
bathing you and bathing me
in the possibilities
far across the crystal sea

Try Try Try Try Try Try
By Barbara Gettes and Michael Baker
Well, ain’t it a shame
about the man who went insane
shooting the bullets through the air
cuttin’ through
this endless rain
There's a woman on the street
looking for something cheap to eat, but
the voices in her head make the pigeons
her only friends
Oh me! Oh my!
lets get together and
Try Try Try Try Try Try
There was an artist down the street
the Chinese cut his feet
stuck a pole through his head
he jumped the fence
and went to Jersey!
What does he mean?
Oh me! Oh my!
lets get together and
Try Try Try Try Try Try
I”m a pigeon in the rain
I jump fence for a friend
with Love in your head
your head is easily spread
It’s easy to spread!
Oh me! Oh my!
lets get together and
Try Try Try Try Try Try

Bridges For Free

Bridges for Free
By Michael Baker
Love, look -
recovery and destruction
and the lovely luck lever I pull in my sleep -
in mystical winds
glowing ships out on that river
well, if this ship 's for dancing,
then dancing 's for free
Love built
a bird on my shoulder
a fly-away fountain,
a bird in reprieve
don't leave in the morning if the wind is not behind you
don't leave with your pushing
don't leave me behind
Sailing a clipper or sailing a big ship
We know, we know, we know this thing
is building up bridges that many can walk on
we walk along bridges
the bridges for free
Love landed
somewhere in Philadelphia
and sat with a movement
a movement for change
in mystical winds
glowing ships out on that river
well, if this ship will have dancing
then dancing 's for free
Sailing a clipper or sailing a big ship
We know, we know, we know this thing
is building up bridges that many can walk on
we walk along bridges
the bridges for free
Love, when
will two boulders balance?
When will I remember the climb in my sleep?
When two eyes are closing
and two others open,
I blink for the fire
we open in flame

Transistor Radio
By Barbara Gettes
The only thing she had to show
was a Transistor Radio
Oh, the people walking down the street
she was barely phased by
the shoes on their feet
da da da da da da da da da da da da
She always liked to say, “hello”
but the chances were rare cause she was sitting so low
All she needed was her radio
but where is it now, oh, where did it go?
What happened to the radio?
Noone here seems to know
da da da da da da da da da da da da da
When the cold air set in
she took solace in a bottle of gin
crooners say that it was not a sin
except for the man with the toothless grin
What happened to the radio?
Noone here seems to know
da da da
He sat with her through the night
Oh, and in his arms he was holding her tight
Love would make the cold seem trite
and the two became out of mind
out of sight
da da da da da da da da da da da da
What happened to the radio?
Noone here seems to know

Together
By Michael Baker and Barbara Gettes
We see the guns fall down
and people are equal
to see each other as equals
the sick with us
are in boxes
drowning
in seas of money
when learning is not a test
and our health is no business
let the built-ups lose their uniforms
and dance naked
we're all naked -
bankers and teachers and healers and preachers
truly feeling a light
a sunshine
even at night
where is our dream together?
and what grabs you
and packs your bag to journey?

Marigolds

Marigolds
By Michael Baker
the day, the day
the day with whistles, bumbles, clumps and clangs
and boooooms
I laid my head here
I wake up here
take a
light, a
handful
take a light
handful of bad cards -
bad cards
you can throw'em down
they deal,
you can just throw'em down
marigolds tumbling through the light
land in-
side the
wood
land inside the wood is where he stood
he stood
he knew the wood
the wood knew
to come
I come
to come undone
sometimes I come undone
the honey police
make their own bumblebees
marigolds tumbling through the light
the snouts
around
the fence,
the snouts around the fence
the grub
a tub full of grub for America
make a
light, a
handful
begin to quiver hand in hand
in foot
let your hair down
be free to me
marigolds tumbling through the light
in the city
I fell from a tree
and now I feel so free

Bad Dream
By Barbara Gettes
You left your letters scattered
filled with words that once did matter
And all I know now
you’ve left it somehow
Oh, this old heart feeling tattered
Yesterday’s back roads were windy
Left me a-glow and so timely
I was floating around
on the wings of your sounds
Now I’m gonna walk away blindly
Let yourself be free to me, please
And when you climb those fire-colored trees
collect some leaves
bring them back for me
And tell me this has just been
a Bad Dream

The Morning
By Michael Baker
I don't wanna be a gypsy
I don't wanna open up your town
call up in the morning
call around
to everyone to come around
that's just not my sound
of words
in and out the time I've spent around you
I have become a mess
talkin' bout the morning
talk about the sun that 's calling 'cross the sky
but I don't ask why
cuz I know
in and out the morning
when the time has come
the sun casts its spell
you would say that morning
you would sing it
I knew well the words
the words
of the birds!

A Tale of the Northern Lights
By Barbara Gettes and Michael Baker
In the night a gypsy roared
the birds, the birds
began to soar
In through a desert rain
In through a sea of change
Birds flew in and out of time
The night began to rewind
to a time when time stood still
when the gypsy met the man on the hill
Ahhhh ahh ahhhh
In his eyes she did stare
electricity soaked up the air
The ground fell out beneath their feet
when they whispered
words sweet
Ahhh ahhh ahhh
Through endless skies
they danced and twirled
with those who’ve passed on from this world
Exploded in excited light
magnetic ribbons of the night
Magnetic ribbons of the night!
Ahhhh ahhhh ahhhhhhh

Sad Maggie
By Michael Baker
Well, hey Sad Maggie!
gonna tell you one day
tell you one day
how your daddy ran away
Well, he ran out west cuz the train was a-going
Blew out west cuz the wind was a-blowing
Always had a dime but he never had the time
He was a-riding first class on the cross-country line
He was a hard-time winner
a rovin misfit
Hey, little Maggie gonna tell ya one day
tell ya one day how your daddy ran away
Well, you were happy as a hen for the money that he sent ya
money for the schoolin' that you always went to
He always gave a dime but he never had the time
was a-riding first class on the cross-country line
He was a pocket-full traveler
a roving gambler
Hey, little Maggie gonna tell ya one day
tell ya one day how your daddy ran away
Well, there was money in his hand
but his hand was on the table
Ace in the pocket and
a Royal Family
Well, he always had a dime but he never had the time
was a-riding first-class on the cross-country line

Fire
By Barbara Gettes
In the glowing hour
the sun casts its spell
painting the walls red
Lifting words you say
into the clouds
hovering above my bed
Oh, I know
that time will bring a blanket
with patches we've sewn on together
the blanket will wrap itself
round around us
setting the day on
Fire
Fire
Fire
Fire
The galaxy of snowflakes
and once fallen leaves
will wake with the budding of trees
Time can pass slowly
with you and I walking
walking through some crazy dream
Oh, I know
that time will bring a blanket
with patches we've sewn on together
the blanket will wrap itself
round around us
setting the day on
Fire
Fire
Fire
Fire

Lonely Firefly
By Michael Baker and Barbara Gettes
I can feel that flame a-fumin'
in my knees and in my nose
feel the flame afumin'
as it grows, it grow-ow ow-ow-ow-ows!
all the people of this land
are surely making plans
for something sweet to eat
they tap the trees
they tap the tree-ee-ee-ee ee-ee-ee-ees!
there's a big roll a-rollin'
a big storm a-comin' in
big flower open up to see
be free, be free
Freedom!
well, I'm movin' towards the light
very Lonely Firefly
lights reflecting
reflecting in the river
reflecting the river
ah, ah, ah, ah
There's a big roll a-rollin'
big storm a-comin' in
big flower open up to see
be free, be free
Freedom!
